Pennies For Puppies and Ponies, a community program benefiting the K-9 and Mounted Patrol Units for the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office- recently honored the late Lynnwood Police K9 “Vader” and his handler, Officer Curtis Zatylny for their tireless, proactive work.
Founder, Carole Flynn White and active Founding Volunteer Barbara Harvey presented Vader’s partner Officer Zatylny with the “JJ Harvey Award.” This recognition was in honor of P for P and P’s active volunteer’s Barbara Harvey’s late husband Jay Harvey who was a pioneer in modern law enforcement in our area.
Lynnwood Police Canine Officer “Vader” passed away at the beginning of this year after a sudden, major medical emergency.
Vader worked hard tracking bad guys and recovering evidence right up until the very end, he was 7 years-old.
Lynnwood Police Chief Steve Jensen said Vader touched everyone at the Lynnwood Police Department and will be sorely missed. “Officer Zatylny and his canine partner Vader together apprehended a great many criminal suspects and enhanced the safety of the public and our officers,” Jensen said.
