Firefighters from Lynnwood and Fire District 1 battled a large house fire tonight near 185th Street Southwest and 79th Place West. The fire was in an abandoned house on a steep hillside overlooking the Perrinville post office.

Fire District 1 spokesperson Jerry Sheehan told our news partners at My Edmonds News that fire crews had to run 650 feet of hose down a steep driveway to reach the home. No one was hurt, but traffic was backed up near near Olympic View Drive and 76th Avenue West as onlookers watched flames shooting from the home.

The tall, dark smoke plume could be seen from Seattle.

Investigators will look for the cause in the morning.
