Crowds braved the wind and rain to be the first to shop at the new Whole Foods Market near 196th and Alderwood Mall Parkway.

The festivities kicked off at 8 a.m. Mayor Don Gough participated in a ceremonial bread breaking and the Lynnwood High School band performed.

“This is going to be much more than a grocery store. With seminars, live music, food education and children’s programming,” Store Manager Mindy Jahn said. “It is my hope that it will become a community gathering place, somewhere you can relax with friends and family, maybe learn something new, and get the shopping done, too.”

This Saturday, the store will host a community celebration from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. It will feature live music by local trio The Wiretappers, vendor demonstrations and hands-on kids’ activities.
