Police chief honors dozens of volunteers

Cheryl Tenney (L) and Elaine Solvang (R) volunteered more than 500 hours with LPD in 2010.

Police Chief Steve Jensen recently handed out 60 Presidential Volunteer Service awards to members of the department’s volunteer squads.

The Lynnwood Police Department has two groups of volunteers — Citizens Patrol and Volunteers in Public Safety. There are 75 members on the two groups who collectively gave 21,000 hours in 2010.

Of the 60 awards given, there were 42 bronze, 16 silver and two gold. Those who received the bronze volunteered between 100 and 249 hours. The silver recipients volunteered between 250 to 499 hours. The two volunteers who earned the gold award, Cheryl Tenney and Elaine Solvang, gave more than 500 hours.

The President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation was established in 2003 to recognize the valuable contributions volunteers are making in our communities and encourage more people to serve.
