Police, medical examiner investigating after person died from gunshot wounds

Lynnwood Police and the Snohomish County Medical Examiner are investigating after a person was shot in the area of 56th Avenue West and 168th Street Southwest on Monday afternoon.

The call came in for a person down with firearms nearby, according to Lynnwood Police Cmdr. Sean Doty. The victim died of their injuries at the scene.

“(The gunshot wound) appears to be self-inflicted, but the Snohomish County Medical Examiner will have to do their investigation,” said Doty. “We have no arrests and are not looking for anyone at this time.”

Investigators closed roads in the area around 3 p.m. to investigate. They reopened 168th Street Southwest about 40 minutes after they were closed and officers say the area is safe.

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner has taken custody of the body and will release the identity, as well as cause and manner of death, once their investigation concludes.

A description of the victim was not immediately available.
