It appears that political newcomer Nicola Smith will be taking on two-term incumbent Don Gough in the race for mayor of Lynnwood.

As of Friday’s results, Nicola Smith, the Dean of Student Life and Development at Edmonds Community College, had 28 percent of the vote (1,246 votes), while Gough had 26 percent (1,156 votes). City Councilmember Mark Smith had 23 percent (1,042) and continued to lose ground to Gough.

In the Council Position No. 1 race, M. Christopher Boyer had 44 percent (1,879 votes) to Michael Moore, who had 40 perecent (1,671 votes). Ian Cotton had 34.01 percent (1,470 votes) to lead Jim Smith, who had 33.80 percent (1,461 votes), in the Council Position No. 2 race. Shirley Sutton trailed with 32 percent (1,374 votes).

In the Council Position No. 3 race, Ruth Ross had 33 percent (1,392 votes) and Douglas Lovitt had 28 percent (1,211 votes).

The top two finishers advance to the November General Election.

The next round of results will be at 5 p.m., Friday, Aug. 16.
