The Lynnwood Royals Boys soccer team celebrated Senior Night Friday as they took to the pitch to face the visiting Chargers from Marysville Getchell. After a slow start, the Royals settled down and controlled the second half to claim a 2-1 victory at Lynnwood High
The evening started with a celebration of the soccer careers of twelve Lynnwood seniors.
Once the game began, the first-half momentum was clearly with the visiting Chargers. They controlled possession much of the half, breaking up any offense the Royals tried to generate.
In the 13th minute, Getchell got on the scoreboard first when Kolby Losik powered home a shot from the right side past Royals goalkeeper, Sophomore William Juarez.
After squandering the few scoring chances they had, Lynnwood pulled even with Getchell when Dante Mangayi bent a 20-yard shot up and past Chargers keeper Evan Sprague in the 32nd minute.
After the half, Lynnwood came out looking like a different team. They dominated much of the second half.
The lone score of the half came in the 52nd minute when Omar Salcedo took a mid-field pass from Diego Aragon down the left side where he checked up before blasting a shot into the far corner of the goal just out of the reach of Sprague.
In the 70th minute, Getchell got a point blank shot on goal, only to be turned away thanks to a great save from Juarez to maintain the lead and the eventual win.
Lynnwood Seniors honored Friday night: Alfredo Rodriguez, Dillon Matthews, Diego Aragon, Rofaiel Dawood, Michael Kilgore, Robel Haile, Brayam Juarez, Joshua Quintero, Jesus Mendez, Albert Ventura, Allan Blanco and Ronald Santos.
