Lynnwood’s Vicky Lee, Thu Nguyen and Gladys Mwangi are looking to take the next step and advance to the Class 4A state girls golf tournament. The three Royals all advanced to the second round of districts last year but did not qualify for state. Lee, however, advanced to state two years ago.
Top players: Vicky Lee, Thu Nguyen, Gladys Mwangi
Newcomer: Abigail Yemane
From coach Glenn Chinn: The goals for the team are for the players to be able to assess their own shots and make corrections of their swings based on ball flight. Chinn hopes that team reduces their scores through each match by emphasizing smaller individual goals within each match. “In my tenure here as golf coach, I’ve never had anybody come through the program with a personal swing coach. These girls that come through are brand new to the sport, which really speaks a lot about the dedication and willingness of these players from Lynnwood, especially since we have one or two make it to state every year for the past six or seven years.”
Odd fact: Lynnwood’s players don’t own their own clubs. They are all borrowed or belong to the program.
