The end of an era is near for the Meadowdale swim team.
Two-time defending state champion Anna Keane is entering her senior season for the Mavericks. Keane won the 50- and 100-yard freestyles as a sophomore and junior. Her times earned her All-American status last year.
It’s been a busy time for Keane, who has been on some recruiting trips, according to Meadowdale coach Kati Girard. It’s very possible that Keane will decide on where she will go to college and sign early.
Keane and her fellow seniors are helping Girard out during practice as the team numbers are in the low 30s.
“The upperclassmen try to help get things done,” Girard said. “It’s good.”
Meadowdale’s 200 freestyle relay team of Anabella King, Rachel Belt, Mansi Kalokhe and Laura Lundberg also advanced to state last year.
Another key returner for the Mavericks is Victoria Nguyenle, a strong breaststroke swimmer.
Several of the newcomers to the team come in with some experience, having done swimming over the summer, Girard said. Then there are those who are new to the sport.
“It’s always a challenge with the different levels,” Girard said.
