The 2018 Lynnwood Royals girls tennis team features many new faces.
Gone from last season are: seven graduated seniors, one varsity player who chose not to turn out this year and a head coach.
The team now has a new old coach. Bill Moliter, who was the head girls coach at Lynnwood nine years ago, returns to the girls team. He’s also been the Lynnwood Boys Tennis coach the past two seasons.
“We are a very, very young team,” Moliter said. “We have 17 ninth graders. Getting better every day, but young.”
He’s not without some returning varsity experience on the roster. Olivia Nguyen, Maika Truong and Sea Choi all return to lead the way for the Royals.
The new head coach also highlighted two freshmen who, while raw, have the talent to develop into good tennis players. They are Sea Choi’s younger sister, Su Ah Choi, and Leanne Vu.
As far as goals for the season, the focus of this team will certainly be on developing the young roster and building a strong core for the future of Lynnwood girls tennis.
“Get better. See improvement every time out,” Moliter said. “If I can keep seventeen girls turning out every year for three years, maybe we’ll be competitive.”
Lynnwood’s first match took place Thursday, March 15 against Monroe. Their next match is set for Monday, March 19 at Lynnwood High School beginning at 3:30 p.m.
