With a pair of convincing victories at the District 1 3A Softball Tournament Tuesday, the Meadowdale Mavericks are heading back to the WIAA 3A state tourney after a one-year hiatus.

Meadowdale, the No.-1 seed at the district tourney, defeated the Marysville-Pilchuck Tomahawks 7-3 in a tournament semifinal winner-to-state game at Phil Johnson Fields in Everett. The victory came after the Mavericks had steamrolled the Shorewood Thunderbirds 10-0 in a tourney opening-round matchup.

Taylor Eskew pitched the first game vs. Shorewood and Kate Houghton was on the mound against Marysville-Pilchuck. Between them, they gave up just three hits over the combined 12 innings they were on the mound Tuesday.

The Mavericks will have one more game at the district tournament before traveling to Lacey for the state tourney later this month. Meadowdale will face No. 2-seeded Snohomish on Thursday, May 16, back at Phil Johnson Fields in the district tourney’s championship tilt; first pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m.

Meadowdale missed out on last year’s state tournament for the first time since 2011; the school captured the 3A state title in 2016.
