Prep softball: Jackson dominates Meadowdale

The Meadowdale Mavericks softball team welcomed the reigning 4A State Champion Jackson Timberwolves softball team to the diamond at Meadowdale High School Friday afternoon.

Sophomore Kelci Studioso took the mound for the Mavs, and sent the Wolves down 1-2-3 in the top of the first, striking out two.

Unfortunately for Meadowdale, that was as good as things would get, as the Wolves — led by the 2018 State Player of the Year Iyanla “Ice” Pennington — scored eight times in the second inning and didn’t look back on their way to the 16-2 route of the home Mavericks in 5 innings.

Despite the strong first inning, Studioso surrendered 16 runs on 15 hits in five innings.  She did have the lone Meadowdale hit, a single to right field, in the second inning.

Pennington pitched four innings for the Timberwolves, surrendering two runs on just one hit, while striking out 10.

Meadowdale will play next Wednesday, March 27 at 4 p.m. when they host the Stanwood Spartans at Meadowdale High School.
