Prep softball: Mavericks pound Lions 12-0 in state tournament opener

Meadowdale smacked four home runs and Lauren Dent pitched a shutout as the Mavericks beat Auburn Mountainview 12-0 in a first round Class 3A state softball tournament game Friday morning at the Regional Athletic Complex in Lacey.

Julia Reuble gave Meadowdale a 1-0 lead in the first inning with a solo shot to center field and later added a two-run homer in the fifth inning.Teammates Samantha Gregoryk hit a three-run home run later in the fifth inning and Hailey Costello launched a two-run homer in the sixth inning.

Dent struck out 10 in six innings of work. Meadowdale takes on Prairie at 4 p.m. in a quarterfinal contest.
