The Mountlake Terrace Hawks have been surprising opposing teams on the softball diamond this year with solid defense and a well-rounded hitting attack; on Friday, the Hawks pulled off their biggest surprise of the season.
Terrace gave the Meadowdale Mavericks just their second loss of the year by defeating the Mavs 8-7 Friday at Meadowdale High School. The Mavericks had been ranked no. 2 in the state 3A rankings by MaxPreps.com prior to the defeat.
With the victory, Terrace avenged a 20-4 drubbing that Meadowdale had handed them back on March 25.
Despite the setback, the Mavs retained first place in the Wesco League South Conference with an 11-2 league mark, 13-2 overall. The Hawks moved into a second place tie in the division at 9-4, 11-4 overall.
