Prep softball: Royals fall to Tomahawks

The Lynnwood Royals closed out their 2019 regular season on Monday with a 15-5 loss to the Marysville-Pilchuck Tomahawks. The Royals must now wait to see if any postseason action is in their future.

In Monday’s game at Lynnwood High School, the Royals couldn’t slow down a Tomahawks offensive that has averaged more than 12 runs per victory this season. M-P pounded out 11 hits in the mercy rule-shortened five-inning game, including doubles by Sydney Zachry, Emily Downing, Cassidy Phelps and Riley Perrine.

With the loss, Lynnwood finished the regular season with a 2A/3A Wesco League record of 3-11, 4-16 overall. But the Royals may still sneak into the District 1 3A Softball Tournament loser-out round of games scheduled for Thursday, May 7, as the tourney’s No. 10 seed. Lynnwood will have to wait until after other district teams play their regular season finales on Tuesday to see if they have made the cut and get into a play-in loser-out game.
