PUD employee dies after falling from the second floor of warehouse

A Snohomish County PUD employee died Wednesday night after falling from the mezzanine of the new PUD office in Lynnwood to the ground level earlier this week.

Lynnwood paramedics responded to the office, located at 21014 63rd Ave. W., at 7:20 a.m.  Sunday, May 15 Lynnwood Fire spokeswoman Julie Moore said the man was unconscious at the time and transported to Harborview Medical Center.

61-year-old Al Speed, who has worked for Snohomish County PUD for 37 years, fell while several staff members were moving supplies into the office warehouse at the new PUD office, Snohomish County PUD spokesman Neil Neroutsos said. It is unclear what caused him to fall. Snohomish County PUD and the Department of Labor and Industries are each conducting investigations.

No further details are available at this time.

“We hope to learn more about the cause as a result of these investigations,” Neroutsos said. “Our thoughts go out to his family during this very difficult time.”
