After a two week delay, the grand opening of the newly remodeled Recreation Center has been scheduled for Thursday, April 28.
A dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony, along with a few short speeches, will kick off the celebration at 11:30 a.m. From 1 – 3 p.m. there will be an open house in which the public can swim or use the fitness center and racquetball courts for free. This will be repeated from 6 – 8 p.m.
The first official day of business will be Friday, April 29.
The new $25 million, 45,000-square-foot Rec Center includes a new pool with two slides, a lazy river, water playground and family hot tub. There’s also a lap pool, sauna, adult hot tub and warm-water therapy pool. The movable walls can be opened to the outside when the weather is nice.
The fitness room has 27 cardio machines and 17 strength training machines. Three machines are wheelchair accessible.
A large group workout space will house classes such as zumba, pilates, kickboxing, yoga, ballet and fencing.
There’s also an outdoor playground, reflexology path and an expanded parking lot.
Admission is $3.50 for children ages 2-12 years, $4 for 13-17, $4.50 for adults, and $3.50 for seniors and disabled persons. A one-day family pass is $13. 10-visit passes, fitness passes and annual passes are available.
The Rec Center was originally scheduled to open on April 14 but was postponed while crews put on the finishing touches.
$450 ($37.50/Month) for an annual pass is rather expensive if I only want access to the fitness area. $37.50 is only $2.50 more than I pay for my membership to a private gym.
