Rec Center construction is in the home stretch

The renovation of the Lynnwood Recreation Center is nearly complete.

The grand opening was orginally planned for April 14 but it has been pushed back. A new opening date has not yet been announced.

“There is an extensive ‘punch list’ of items to be completed before a permanent Certificate of Occupancy can be issued by the city.  Until then, staff training and equipment installation continues,” Parks Director Lynn Sordel told us. “We sincerely appreciate everyone’s patience as we work to complete the project and open the facility to the community.”

There’s a contest for the first people to go down the slides. To enter, kids can draw a picture of explain in 50 words or less why they want to be the first down the slides.

“We are receiving entries and will likely make a decision as to who will be selected sometime within 36-72 hours before the scheduled grand opening,” Sordel said.

When it opens, the rec center will feature new locker rooms, a leisure pool with two water slides, a lazy river, water playground, two hot tubs, a new cardio/weight room and fitness studio. Check the current recreation guide for programs and classes.

The exercise room contains 27 cardio machines and 17 strength training machines.
