The demolition is complete and construction has already started on the new Lynnwood Rec Center on 44th Avenue West. As you’ve probably noticed, a lot has happened on the $25 million project in the past several weeks.
“Site utilities, locker room and pool plumbing is complete and we’ve hauled off nearly 150 truckloads of dirt and about 128 truckloads of debris during the last four months,” Lynnwood Parks and Recreation Director Lynn Sordel said.
People have been asking the city why the contractor didn’t just tear down the entire building. Sordel said by salvaging portions of the building they’ll save about $1.3 million in construction costs.
In keeping with the city’s Green Building objectives, most of the debris removed during demolition (concrete, brick, drywall, wood framing, roofing and metal) was recycled.
The renovated Rec Center is scheduled to reopen in spring 2011.
