Lynnwood police recruiting volunteers for Citizens Patrol

The Lynnwood Police Department is recruiting volunteers to join the Citizens Patrol.

This group of about 70 men and women, whose average age is 41, acts as extra eyes and ears for the police department. Citizens Patrol members direct traffic at accident scenes, write disabled parking citations, open locked car doors, provide bike patrol of parks and shopping areas, and help with weather related or crime scene emergencies.

Those who apply must be reasonably physically fit, have a good driving record, and be able to pass a criminal history background check.  Members will work at least 10 hours a month and uniforms and gear will be provided.  Those joining the group will receive extensive training that is usually scheduled in the evening, beginning in mid-February.

The application deadline is Jan. 21, 2011. Applications can be found online.
