Red light camera contract up for renewal

Tonight the Lynnwood City Council will decide whether to extend its first contract with American Traffic Solutions, the Arizona-based company that administers the city’s right light camera program.

The current contract expires on Nov. 12, but the mayor and city attorney proposed renewing the contract for just another three months. That will give them enough time to review the results of an internal investigation into dealings two police department officials had with the company. (The Herald has reported extensively on this matter.)

The investigation is expected to be complete by Oct. 31.

Under the current contract, ATS is paid between $3,500 and $3,750 per month for each of the city’s 10 red light cameras.
