The Lynnwood City Council is considering a “reflexology path” for the new rec center that’s under construction. The path would be the first of its kind in Snohomish County.

According to a Council brief, the path is an artistic element that also promotes wellness:

Scientific studies have shown real benefits of walking a reflexology path, in particular for older adults. Walking the path is also part of the traditional wellness practice of many Asian cultures, and the Recreation Center has always had many customers of Asian descent, mirroring the demographics of Lynnwood (17.7% Asian/Pacific Islander). The path is to relate to the existing sculpture “Dance” by artist Hai-ying Wu (created for the Recreation Center in 1991 and to be re-installed at the renovated Center), the new sculpture to be created by artist Susan Zoccola and the rain garden.

The reflexology path is expected to cost up to $30,000 and would be funded by the 1% for public arts program. It’s in addition to three lighted sculptures that will be installed outside the new rec center. No word on when the Council will make a decision on the path.
