Regional Fire Authority planning meeting to be held Wednesday

Should several cities in south Snohomish County combine fire departments to save money? The issue will continue to be discussed tomorrow in Lynnwood.

The Regional Fire Authority Planning Committee will meet Wednesday, April 4, 6 p.m., at Lynnwood City Hall.

Brier, Edmonds, Lynnwood, Mill Creek, Mountlake Terrace, Mukilteo, Woodway and Snohomish County Fire Districts 1 and 7 formed the committee a year ago. Since then, the group made up of three elected officials from each jurisdiction has been gathering and sharing information on finances, budgets and operations.

The planning process is expected to take another year, and if feasible, could culminate in a public vote to create an RFA.

The April 4 meeting will include a presentation and discussion on how to align finance and service level models for regionalizing fire and emergency medical service.
