Reminder: 21st District candidates to appear at Sept. 16 forum in Edmonds

The Faith Action Network, a statewide interfaith public policy organization, is sponsoring a community-wide Candidate Forum for legislative candidates in the 21st Legislative District on Tuesday, Sept. 16. The Forum will be hosted by Edmonds United Methodist Church, 828 Caspers in Edmonds.

All six candidates for the Legislature in the 21st District – the top two vote-getters in the August primary for the two House seats and the Senate seat – have accepted invitations to participate  The candidates will arrive at 6:30 p.m.to meet informally with community members over light refreshments. The Forum will begin promptly at 7 p.m. in the Church sanctuary.  After opening statements, each candidate will be asked to respond to several questions that reflect the faith community’s major public policy concerns. The audience will then be invited to submit questions to the candidates. The Forum will end at approximately 9 p.m. followed by more informal time to meet and chat with voters.

The 21st Legislative District includes parts of Edmonds, Lynnwood, Mukilteo, Mill Creek and Everett.  The Forum is free and is open to the general public.

The Candidate Forum is being co-sponsored by faith communities in the District, including Edmonds United Methodist Church, Edmonds Unitarian Universalist Church, Good Shepherd Baptist Church, Palabra Viviente United Methodist Church and Maplewood Presbyterian Church.

Legislative candidates who have agreed to participate are Allen McPheeters (R) and Strom Peterson (D), candidates for State Representative Position 1; Lillian Ortiz-Self (D) and Jeff Scherrer (R), candidates for State Representative Position 2; and Dan Matthews (R) and Marko Liias (D), candidates for State Senator.
