Rep. Roberts: ‘what does it really mean to do less?’

Rep. Mary Helen Roberts (D-Lynnwood) is making her case for a tax increase.

Representative Mary Helen RobertsIn an op-ed in Saturday’s Everett Herald, Roberts said the largest the largest portion  of state tax dollars goes to education and health care, but she said those are two areas in which cuts are the most difficult.

“We can’t, and shouldn’t, cut the 40 percent of our state spending that is on K-12 education. Major reductions to the 30-plus percent of state spending for health care means eliminating services for thousands of babies and seniors,” said said.

She said to bring the budget back into balance we need more revenue in the form of a tax increase.
