The Lynnwood Police Department recently finished its 22nd Citizens Academy. Almost 70 individuals graduated from the 13-week, free, annual course that familiarizes citizens with common police procedures, activities and investigative techniques.

Although this course will not make police officers out of the public, those who attend learn a great deal about all phases of law enforcement.

Nine graduates have gone on to join the department’s Lynnwood Police Citizens Patrol group and four of these participants have gone on to join the department’s Lynnwood Police Volunteers in Public Safety (VIPS) group.

To learn more about or sign up for the 2014 Citizens Academy which starts in January 2014 contact Lynnwood Police Crime Prevention Specialist Cheryl Tenney at 425-670-5639 or email ctenney@ci.lynnwood.wa.us.
