The Rotary Club of Alderwood Terrace has named Cedar Way Paraeducator Widad Gaddah as its March Educator of the Month.

Gaddah’s first contact with an American public school was when she arrived with her family from Libya. A devout Muslim, entering the public school system as a parent and volunteer in a post-911 world “was frightening and intimidating,” wrote Cedar Valley Elementary School Principal Hawkins Cramer, in his nomination letter to the Rotary Club of Alderwood Terrace.

“She wanted to be a part of her kids’ education and pushed past the barriers of language and culture and started volunteering in her daughter’s classroom,” Cramer said. “Widad has opened doors of opportunities for many of our families both here at school and across our district. Her leadership is an inspiration to us all.”
