Following her performances in the Royals’ pair of season-opening victories, Lynnwood junior Amayah Kirkman was named a Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) Athlete of the Week for Nov. 25-Dec. 1.
Kirkman led the Royals’ girls basketball team to wins over Kamiak and Bothell during the initial week of the 2018-2019 season; the point guard scored a combined 61 points, had 18 rebounds, 10 steals and nine assists in the two contests.
Kirkman has been a member of the Royals’ varsity basketball team each of her three years at Lynnwood; last year as a sophomore, Kirkman was the second-leading scorer for the team averaging 13 points per game.
The WIAA recognizes up to 12 student-athletes from throughout the state each week for its Athlete of the Week honors. Kirkman is the first student-athlete from the Edmonds School District to be named a WIAA Athlete of the Week this school year.
