Royals sports roundup: Volleyball beats Cedarcrest, Desgrippes wins boys singles title

The Lynnwood Royals kept their hopes for a berth in the postseason 3A District 1 Volleyball Tournament alive with a 3-1 victory over the Cedarcrest Red Wolves Wednesday at Lynnwood High School.

Jayden Angell led the Royals with 18 kills in the win. Preza Acacia provided 37 assists while Surina Soumpholphakdy contributed 31 digs in the victory.

Lynnwood is ranked No. 11 in the latest District 1 RPI rankings, to be used to determine the 10 entries in the district volleyball tourney in November. The Royals are hoping Wednesday’s victory over Cedarcrest may move them ahead of either (or both) Marysville-Pichuck or Stanwood when the next rankings are published.

The Royals have three matches remaining in the 2019 regular schedule starting with a Tuesday, Oct. 29, contest with the Shorecrest Scots.

In other Lynnwood sports results, Nico Desgrippes captured the singles’ title at the 3A Wesco League South Conference Boys Tennis Tournament played at Jackson High School. Desgrippes defeated Thomas Synott of Squalicum in the tourney singles’ final 6-2, 6-1.
