Brier-Terrace teacher receives state VFW award

Ruth Brick — a 7th grade English and Social Studies teacher at Brier-Terrace Middle School — has been named Middle School Teacher of the Year by the Washington State Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Ruth was nominated by Edmonds Post #8870 for teaching and reinforcing citizenship education topics, promoting America’s history and traditions, and fostering and promoting democratic values.  She was chosen from more than 100 candidates across the state.

Ruth has volunteered to coordinate Veterans’ Day assemblies and she plans, organizes, and conducts learning activities that promote topics such as flag etiquette, understanding our founding documents, and the responsibilities of citizenship.

She’s now eligible for the national award.
