Updated at 11 p.m. with additional information.

A family for four – two adults and two children – safely escaped a fire that caused heavy damage to their home east of Lynnwood.

The fire was reported around 4:45 p.m. at a single-story home with a daylight basement in the 1700 block of 198th Street Southwest, east of Lynnwood.

“One of the children heard a noise and discovered the fire, then alerted the rest of the family. They safely exited the house,” said South Snohomish Fire spokeswoman Leslie Hynes.

No one was injured. The fire left the home uninhabitable. Support 7 and the Red Cross responded to assist the family that has been displaced by the fire.

The Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating to determine how the fire started.
