Police chase near Lynnwood ends with a crash on I-5

A police chase that started in Snohomish County ended with a crash in north Seattle.

A deputy tried to stop a black SUV for speeding in south Everett about 11:30 a.m. That driver fled on 132nd St. SW, ran a red light, hit a car and kept on going.

Shortly after that, a woman called 911 to say a man she knows assaulted her with a knife, threatened her then drove off in her black SUV. Police made the connection and started looking for the driver again. He was spotted on southbound I-5 in Lynnwood.

“Deputies tried to pull him over, but he kept driving. The pursuit continued into Seattle where the suspect crashed into another vehicle, causing both the SUV and the victim’s vehicle to roll over,” said Rebecca Hover with the Sheriff’s Office.

The woman suffered minor injuries. The suspect was taken to Harborview before going to jail on charges of vehicle theft, vehicular assault and eluding police.

The crash and investigation caused southbound I-5 at Lake City Way to backup for several miles.
