Serving up lattes with a lifesaving message

Your next morning coffee might come with a message that could save a life.

In the next few weeks police agencies throughout Snohomish County will begin delivering to coffee stands cardboard sleeves that discourage drinking and driving during the holiday season.

“We want everyone to have a safe holiday season and are asking those celebrating to think before they drink and to choose a safe way to get home,” said Conrad Thompson, chair of the Snohomish County DUI & Target Zero Task Force. “With shrinking budgets and resources, community support is more important than ever.”

The “Choose Your Ride” logo is being printed on more than 6,000 coffee sleeves.

The campaign is made possible through a $1,000 grant from the Washington Traffic Safety Commission. It coincides with the annual DUI emphasis patrol called “Night of 1000 Stars,” in which officers will be looking for impaired drivers throughout Washington state.
