Shannon Sessions, a longtime resident and active stakeholder of Lynnwood, filed Monday to run for the Lynnwood City Council.

In a press release, Sessions said she decided to run after considerable community encouragement, thoughtfulness, and prayers.

“I take this opportunity very seriously and I wanted to be sure I could commit completely in order to take on this important job and challenge before I agreed,” Sessions said. “The timing is right for me and my family. I’m grateful for the outpouring of support and would be honored to represent the Lynnwood community and to work with the current council and city administration in this manner.”

Sessions filed on the very first day of the official filing week to run for Lynnwood City Council seat No. 7, currently held by Van AuBuchon.

“I have a proven track record, in both my public and professional lives, as a visionary leader who understands the importance of cooperation, collaboration and teamwork to achieve desired goals,” Sessions said. “I want to use the cultivated attributes that made me successful to give back to the wonderful city I grew up in and love.”

Sessions said that this position would be another opportunity for her “to help make a positive difference and be more pro-active when it comes to keeping our Lynnwood community a safe place to live, to enhance and guide our economic growth and to foster an environment where families can continue to thrive.

“My extensive community involvement in Lynnwood gives me a unique understanding of the challenges Lynnwood is facing, and how I can on ‘day one’ start making a positive difference.”
