Public Works director says they’re staying ahead of the snowfall

When the snow starting fall this morning, the city says it was prepared for it.

Public Works Director Bill Franz says they applied chemical de-icer on Saturday over most of the trouble spots including hills and bridge decks. “That has helped those spots not get as much snow accumulation,” he said. “We seem to be keeping up with it well.”

Four sander trucks have been out all day spreading a mix of sand and de-icer.

The worst spots include 188th Street SW between 40th Avenue West and Alderwood Mall, and 184th Street SW east of 36th Avenue West.

“We have sand spread on these areas, but they are  very steep hills and we encourage cars to avoid them if possible,” Franz said.

As of noon, Olympic View Drive From Perrinville to the 6700 block is closed due to collisions and icy roads.
