Everett man killed in collision on SR 525 ramp

The State Patrol says prescription drugs may be a factor in a fatal collision Thursday night just north of Lynnwood.

At about 5:10 p.m., a 40-year-old man from Everett lost control of his pick-up truck on the ramp from southbound SR 99 to southbound SR 525.

“The vehicle made a sharp turn to the right, hitting a retaining wall, rotated then struck a large light pole,” Trooper Keith Leary said. “Witnesses to the scene said the truck was (traveling) at a high rate of speed prior to the collision.”

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

Leary said alcohol is not suspected but drugs may have been a factor because they found prescription bottles in the truck.  Toxicology test results are pending.

The ramp was closed for about three hours during the investigation.
