The third grade class at St. Thomas More Parish School in Lynnwood makes care packages for troops in Afghanistan through the Adopt-A-Platoon Program.

This is the school’s fourth year participating in this Stewardship Project. The students write letters and draw pictures for soldiers’ entertainment, as well as gathering seasonal candy and chocolates.

Third graders learn about caring for those outside the community of Lynnwood, by way of showing appreciation to the troops. It also expands their knowledge of the global community.

The highlight is when the school receives a response via e-mail. The school’s contact sends photos along with many “Thank You’s”.

Last week, students received a U.S. flag flown in their honor from Camp Dwyer, Afghanistan.
