Steve Pennington previews EdCC Veteran Ceremony coming May 25

Edmonds Community College will honor veterans.
Edmonds Community College honors veterans and welcomes them back to school.

On May 25, at 10:30 a.m., Edmonds Community College will host its third annual Memorial Day Ceremony to honor fallen soldiers who served our country. Veteran Steve Pennington provided this preview:

“We will begin in the Black Box Theater with guest speakers and a slideshow featuring family members of staff and faculty who served and are no longer with us. We will have special musical performances by a bagpiper from the Northwest Junior Pipe Band, renowned Native American flutist Peter Ali, and our very own campus Music Department’s Voice Class led by Linda Kappus.

Following the presentation in the Blackbox, we will have a procession to the Boots to Books and Beyond Monument, where we will lay a wreath created by Linda Toccoli from our Campus Horticulture Department. Our ceremony will conclude with the lowering of our campus flags to half-staff, followed by a reception and light refreshments at the BlackBox Theater.

EdCC is truly a veteran-friendly campus and welcomes our student veterans. As a product of the institution, I can attest to the quality of the education, and of the faculty and staff. It is a very conducive climate for veterans leaving military service to transition into higher education and civilian life.”

Steve Pennington served in the U.S. Army and Air force, with a total of 28 years active duty and reserve service. Currently, he chairs the EdCC Foundation Legislative Advocacy Committee, and is a member of the Finance Committee and the President’s Advisory Council. He also supports the Veterans Resource Center.
