Time capsule to be sealed at Lynnwood City Hall

Alderwood Road, later 196th Street SW, ca. 1910, from UW Special Collections

In about 50 years, Lynnwood residents will get a look back at the city as it exists today.

As part of the 50th birthday celebration, city officials will seal a time capsule inside a wall at City Hall to be opened in the year 2059. The dedication ceremony is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Friday, April 23.

The contents of the capsule will include photos from the 50th birthday year, other historical photos, a copy of Lynnwood at 50 book, winning posters from Lynnwood Library’s “Best Book I Ever Read” contest and newspaper articles.

Students from Lynnwood Elementary and Lynnwood High School created artwork for the outside the capsule.

You can include your predictions about Lynnwood in 2059 by attending Wednesday’s 50th Birthday Bash from 4 – 8 p.m. at the Lynnwood Convention Center.
