From March 18 to April 21, the Lynnwood Library Gallery will feature artwork by Joan Schlichting:
As a child on a farm in the Midwest, Joan Schlichting loved to look over maps and wonder what it would be like to travel to those places. When she moved to the Pacific Northwest, she saw her first topographical map. Now she experiences the terrain illustrated in those maps, as she rides her bike cross country.
She make her own version of topographical maps, using layers of vibrantly dyed burlap and stitching to mimic and interpret the meandering lines, open spaces and patterns from the maps.
The Lynnwood Library Gallery (19200 44th Ave. W.) is free to the public and presented by the Lynnwood Arts Commission.
