Singer/songwriter Aaron Strumpel will be performing at Trinity Lutheran Church Sunday evening. You can see a YouTube video of his music here.

Strumpel, who according to a review in “Mind Equals Blown,” flies under the radar but is likened to Sufjan Stevens makes easy listening of the acoustic guitar.

Over the past eight years, Strumpel, an indie musician has recorded six solo full length albums, five solo EPs, six collaborative full length albums, and two collaborative EPs.

From the artist’s bio page:

Aaron Strumpel grew up in a hundred year old house surrounded by corn in Iowa, where he began collecting sounds and textures, ratty and sublime, including a trumpet his parents bought him in fifth grade. Since then, he’s been part of the duo The Restoration Project and co-written music to accompany Brian McLaren’s Everything Must Change tour. His new project Elephants, which is a significant transformation from his earlier work, will be released in 2009. Strumpel will be performing at FFM 2009 as the winner of this year’s bandspotting new music spotlight.

Strumpel has toured through 45 states and internationally to Rwanda, Uganda, Gaza, Israel, Haiti, and much of Europe, Central and South America. He has played everywhere from the New Orleans Super Dome to a street corner in a violent Brazilian favela; from a chapel at the Harvard School of Divinity to a yard outside of a make-shift medical clinic in Gaza.

His international work has given him a sense of the beauty and diversity of the people of God and has informed his songs with the sort of simplicity and honesty that translates between cultures.   His time on staff at a local fellowship instilled a centeredness and pastoral heart which also serves to ground his artistry and leadership.
