Unique home in north Lynnwood to be replaced by apartment complex

Photo from Snohomish County

I always drive by this unique looking house on 164th Street SW between Highway 99 and I-5 on the north end of Lynnwood. It’s a beautiful old home that appears to have been abandoned for awhile. Today I noticed some land use signs in the front.

Avalon Communities, which owns the adjacent Avalon Brandemoor, plans to build a five-building apartment complex on the lot. Snohomish County is reviewing their plans to see if county roads can handle the increased traffic. The public comment period ends May 10.

Avalon purchased the 3.4-acre lot last month from the Blevins family for $2.6 million. The home was built in 1967 and looks like it has a lot of history.

A local woman recently visited the property and posted her photos on Flickr. There’s a lot more to the property than you can see from the street.

  1. It is an interesting looking house and I have to admit that I am not hip on more apartments going in there. However it is probably good that someone is doing something with it and not leaving it to be a public nuisance and a place for homeless people and kids to wander through.

  2. We are constantly hearing of the traffic problems on 164th so it reallly doesn't seem logical to be adding a five building complex and the additional traffic it will bring. Until there is some solution to the existing traffic congestion I question the logic of adding to it.

  3. The county had a moratorium on development along 164th, then lifted it after declaring the road at “ultimate capacity”. The theory is that they'll just try to get all new residents to ride buses.
