Update: Chick-Fil-A plans to start construction on Lynnwood restaurant in August, plans for grand opening in March 2015

Chick-fil-A-exterior-lgChick-fil-A plans to start construction on its new Lynnwood restaurant in early August with a projected grand opening in mid-March of 2015.

The restaurant will be located at 196th Street Southwest and Poplar Way, according to Chick-fil-A public relations representative Jerry Johnston. The restaurant will be near Lowe’s.

Lynnwood is one of three locations in Washington slated for the national fast food chicken restaurant. The company reportedly has filed permits to open restaurants in Seattle and Tacoma. The chain currently has no restaurants in Washington State. Chick-fil-A is the second largest quick service chicken restaurant chain in the United States with more than 1,700 units in 39 states.

“We are continuing to research sites throughout the market,” Johnston wrote in an email.

The Lynnwood location would include a 4,530 square food restaurant with drive-through and 47 parking stalls on a lot of approximately 40,802 square feet.

The company became embroiled in the same sex marriage controversy last year when President and Chief Operating Officer Dan T. Cathy made public statements supporting traditional marriage and opposing same sex marriage. Cathy made a personal tweet upon the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision on the Defense of Marriage Act, which he subsequently deleted.The company distanced itself from Cathy’s tweet in a press release.
