Update: Homeowner burned in Monday night’s fire remains in critical condition

The man who was injured when his Lynnwood home caught fire Monday night  is still in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center.

The homeowner has third-degree burns over 30% of his body. He also suffered smoke inhalation during the fire. The man’s wife was not home at the time.

Fire officials say the couple had an unusual amount of debris stacked up in the home which made fighting the fire difficult. It also made it difficult for the man to escape.

The fire appears to have started in the kitchen but the cause is still under investigation. Damage to the home in the 18200 block of 56th Avenue West is now estimated at $300,000.
