A student, who was reported missing last week, has been found dead, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in Oregon said in a press release.

The body of Johnathan Croom, an 18-year-old from Arizona who borrowed his father’s green 2000 Honda CRV to visit a friend in Lynnwood, was located at about 6:30 p.m. today (Monday, Aug. 26).

Croom’s vehicle was first spotted parked on Yokum Road in Riddle, Ore., on Aug. 19. After it had been parked in the same location for two days, the registered owner, Johnathan’s father David Croom, was contacted on Aug. 21.

David Croom told deputies that Johnathan had borrowed the vehicle to drive to Washington state to visit a friend. Johnathan was supposed to return to Arizona to start college.

His death is being investigated as a suicide. His body was located about 1,000 feet from where the vehicle was abandoned in a wooded area. The next of kin has been notified.
