The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in Oregon says that a student, who was reported missing last week, may have wanted to run away.

Johnathan Croom, an 18-year-old who borrowed his father’s green 2000 Honda CRV to visit a friend in Lynnwood, texted a friend and indicated that he may have wanted to run away and leave his current life behind.

Croom’s vehicle was first spotted parked on Yokum Road in Riddle, Ore., on Aug. 19. After it had been parked in the same location for two days, the registered owner, Johnathan’s father David Croom, was contacted on Aug. 21.

David Croom told deputies that Johnathan had borrowed the vehicle to drive to Washington state to visit a friend. Johnathan was supposed to return to Arizona to start college.

Ground searches of the local area where the vehicle was found have not turned up any leads. The Sheriff’s Office will conduct limited searches including air searches based on information received. At this time there is no indication of foul play.

Johnathan Croom is described as 6-foot-1, 140 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He may be in possession of a multi-colored backpack.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking for help from the public. If anyone has seen Johnathan Croom, please contact the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office at 541-440-4471.
