Update on our Christmas drive for a local family in need

Last week we, along with My Edmonds News, began collecting items for a needy family in our community. The mother, 10-year-old girl and 7-year-old boy have been homeless for about three years. Fortunately, they were able to recently find low-income housing. But because of their situation, they have very few belongings or household items.

We’re collecting necessities and a few luxury items to help give them their first real Christmas in years. So far, the outpouring of generosity from the community has been incredible, especially at a time when so many families are struggling financially.

Someone has donated a few toys for each children (it’s a surprise!). Mattress Depot USA gave each child a new twin bed, and Mattress City gave the mother a gently-used queen bed so they no longer have to sleep on foam pads on the floor. Others gave sheets, towels, a used television and various household items. One gentleman even donated a popular portable game system that most kids love. Lynnwood Bowl and Skate donated a bowling and pizza party, and Top Foods gave a grocery gift card.

The list goes on. Each contributor will be thanked individually on our websites after Santa delivers the gifts next week. Thanks so much for your continued generosity. It will be a Christmas this family won’t soon forget.

Here are the greatest needs that remain:

Childrens clothing
Girl’s clothing – size 18/20 (best places to find this size are JCPenney and Justice), shoes – size 4 1/2, socks and underwear.
Boy’s clothing – Jeans  – size Husky 16, sweat pants – boys size large 14, shirts and boxers – size 14, shoes – size 4.

Cash contributions
(we have located an item that the kids will really love, but we need to raise about $100 to purchase it.)

Grocery gift cards

Household items – Dishes, toiletries, blankets, etc.
