Going on vacation this spring and summer? Lynnwood Police volunteers will check on your house while you’re gone.
The Volunteers in Public Safety (VIPS) check on all houses in the Lynnwood city limits whose owners register for the free service. The VIPS are trained on the police radio to call an officer if they hear or see anything suspicious.
Volunteers will walk around outside of the house to make sure all is secure. When they find packages left at unoccupied homes, they are brought back to the police department for delivery after the resident has returned.
The number of homes checked each day ranges from about 10 to 20. Some houses are checked for months while residents are on extended vacations.
To sign up, come to the clerks’ office at the station on the corner of 44th Avenue West and 194th Street SW.
