Crews are stocking the shelves and polishing up the displays at the new Whole Foods Market in Lynnwood.

The store’s ceremonial grand opening/bread-breaking is set for Thursday, March 15 at 8 a.m. The Lynnwood High School band will perform and Mayor Don Gough will speak. The first 100 customers will receive a mini baguette and reusable shopping bag. There will also be free coffee and breakfast, and samples from more than a dozen vendors such as Mighty-O Donuts, Whidbey Island Ice Cream and Lagana Pasta.

We got a sneak peak inside the store Friday. It looks nothing like the Circuit City that formerly occupied the building.

A majority of the products come from local suppliers such as Sherman’s Pioneer Farm on Whidbey Island, CB’s Nuts in Kingston and Willie Green’s in Monroe.

“We designed our first Snohomish County store to cater specifically to the families and residents of this community, from the strong focus on back-to-basics cooking for all budgets to the first dedicated Kids Club area in the region,” said Whole Foods Market Regional President Joe Rogoff. “We hope this store will become a community gathering place.”

The interior was constructed with the environment in mind – from LED lighting to the reclaimed Douglas fir throughout.

The store will feature a host of departments including a cooking department with recipes and bulk spices; prepared foods with offerings such as pizza, Panini sandwiches, deli items and a salad bar; meat department with hormone and antibiotic-free selections; and an artisan bakery with traditional and gluten-free items.

Whole Foods Lynnwood will offer Kids Club events on Saturdays at 2 p.m. throughout the year, focusing on activities such as cooking, gardening and recycling.

On Saturday, March 17, the store will host a community celebration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring live music, vendor demonstrations, kids activities, and exhibits from PAWS, the Imagine Children’s Museum and the University of Washington’s Dubs’ Club.

The store will also hold a food drive benefiting the Lynnwood Food Bank from March 19 to April 15. Drop boxes will be located near customer service.

Hours are 8 a.m. – 10 p.m. daily.
