Wrong-way driver dies on I-5 off-ramp at 196th

A wrong-way driver was found dead on an I-5 off-ramp in Lynnwood last night.

According to our news partners at the Seattle Times, the 68-year-old man may have died from a medical problem before his car drifted off the the ramp and stopped without hitting any other cars, Trooper Mark Francis said.

Francis said the man appeared to have been driving on Poplar Way before going southbound on the northbound I-5 offramp. The car traveled about 150 feet along the offramp before drifting to the shoulder and coming to a stop.

Witnesses found the man unresponsive, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s office is investigating.
